Who is responsible for this site’s data use?
This French Life is a non-commercial personal editorial publication written, edited and directed by Shannon Pratuch. For questions or requests about personal data, contact info@thisfrench.life.
The This French Life brand is owned by Shannon Pratuch SASU. The site does not sell products or services, does not run paid advertising, and has no active reader newsletter sign-up form.
Information processed when you use the site
- Correspondence you choose to send: your name, email address and the contents of your message if you contact the site directly.
- Essential technical information: limited connection, security and diagnostic information created by the hosting, delivery and security services needed to operate and protect the site.
- Optional measurement information: if you actively allow it, Google Analytics and Manus Analytics receive aggregated browsing and device information, such as pages viewed, approximate location, device/browser characteristics and referral information. We do not use these tools for advertising, audience retargeting or selling personal information.
External social links are ordinary links. The relevant social platform’s own privacy terms apply only after you leave This French Life or interact with that platform.
Why this information is used
- To respond to a message you have chosen to send, based on the legitimate interest of managing correspondence and, where relevant, taking steps you request.
- To run, secure and troubleshoot the site, based on the legitimate interest of maintaining a reliable public publication.
- To understand aggregate readership only after your affirmative analytics choice. The legal basis for this optional measurement is consent.
Service providers and international transfers
The site is built and hosted through Manus WebDev, with technical delivery, storage, security and content-distribution providers supporting that service. The public domain is managed through Squarespace. If you allow measurement, Google Analytics and Manus Analytics are also used.
These providers may process information outside France or the European Economic Area. Their processing is governed by their own contractual and privacy documentation. We use the minimum services needed for this small editorial site and do not sell reader information.
Relevant provider information: Manus Privacy Policy, Google Privacy Policy, and Squarespace Privacy Policy.
How long information is kept
Direct correspondence is kept only for as long as needed to respond and maintain the exchange, normally no more than 24 months after the last substantive contact unless a legal obligation or dispute requires longer retention.
Essential technical logs are retained by the relevant technical provider for the period it needs for security and operational purposes. Optional analytics are retained according to the applicable provider settings and policies. Your analytics choice is stored in this browser for six months, after which the site asks again.
Your choices and rights
You can allow, decline or later change optional analytics at any time on the Cookies & Preferences page. Under applicable data-protection law, you may ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability or objection in relation to personal data about you. You may also withdraw consent at any time; withdrawal does not affect processing already carried out before it.
Please email info@thisfrench.life with enough information to identify the correspondence or request. You also have the right to complain to the French data-protection authority, the CNIL.
Changes
If the site begins to collect newsletters, run paid offers, add a contact form, use advertising, or materially changes its data use, this policy will be updated before that activity begins.
