Whenever I submit a dossier to the VFS center, con…

Whenever I submit a dossier to the VFS center, consulate, or prefecture, I am a bundle of nerves without fail. 😆 I spend hours combing the internet for the latest posts and stories about submissions, what was accepted, what was rejected, and what documents were missing.

Honestly, it is a scary process. Your heart, and hopes, and dreams are on the line. The best-case scenario is that you’ll receive your shiny new visa or CDS (carte de sejour) without additional documentation requests. Whenever this happens to me, I feel like I’ve won a huge award. 🥳

However, it is normal for the consulate or prefecture to request additional documentation. You should EXPECT this and be sure to add in buffer time for slow responses, the request for other paperwork to come through, your re-submission, and the time it will take for the government to review your new documents. 😬

It can be tiresome, confusing, frustrating, and complicated. BTW, Bienvenue à France. 🇫🇷 Assembling a French dossier is a time-intensive task that requires a lot of organization. However, if you strongly dislike paperwork, forms, and administrative tasks, beware. I spend on average 3-10 hours per week on maintaining all of my various French admin.

If you can understand that government systems VALUE paperwork, processes, and documentation, you’ll be ahead of the game and save yourself some serious heartache.

For the next few days, I will share my personal experiences and current tips for building your next French visa dossier. Enjoy! 👏

Bisous and big hugs 🤗 from France,
Shannon
