VIDEO VIRTUAL ROAD TRIP – Chateau Coutet, a 400 year old winery in Saint-Emilion, France

ROAD TRIP DAY TWENTY: Have you heard of ecotourism? This practice is a personal goal of mine, to focus and improve upon whenever I travel. I explain more about ecotourism below. For now, I want to introduce you to Chateau Coutet @chateau.coutet.saint.emilion

If you can believe it, the same family has owned and operated this property since 1620. Situated just four minutes outside of Saint Emilion, Chateau Coutet has earned awards for their part in ecotourism – their entire estate is farmed in the most natural way possible. No chemicals, no filtering, completely organic, with a focus on biodiversity.

Three generations of the family currently live on the property, with over 12 hectares in vines. Even if you are not particularly interested in wine, their story is fantastic, and their property is stunning.

In today’s story, I share with you a tour around the property of @chateau.coutet.saint.emilion, and you get to see their home, a private church blessed by the Pope in 1840, meet some of the family, watch the team bottle the wines, and get an exclusive tour of their private wine cave collection.

According to @ties_ecotourism, an International Ecotourism Society & non-profit association dedicated to promoting responsible tourism practices since 1990: “Ecotourism is now defined as “responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment, sustains the well-being of the local people, and involves interpretation and education” (TIES, 2015). Education is meant to be inclusive of both staff and guests.”

Principles of ecotourism include:
minimizing physical, social, behavioral, & psychological impacts,

building environmental & cultural awareness and respect,

provide direct financial benefits for conservation,

deliver memorable interpretive experiences that help raise sensitivity to political, social, and environmental issues,

and recognizing the rights & spiritual beliefs of Indigenous People.

Bisous & big hugs from France,
Shannon
