VIDEO VIRTUAL ROAD TRIP – Calanques, Provence, FRANCE

A big thanks to all of you who messaged me about the trip to L’Isle sur la Sorgue. 🥰 It indeed was a magical day, and I am SO glad that you are enjoying this virtual road trip! 👏

The weather forecast for Aix-en-Provence today was 81 degrees, a bit too hot for the pups. And, to be honest, we have been a few times to that village and were feeling a big draw to head south – to the Med! We wanted to dip our toes into the ocean. 🌊And it was supposed to be a full ten degrees cooler too. So, off we went to the beach and to find a few “calanques.”

Calanques are unique to this region, with only a few others found along the Mediterranean in Italy and Brittany (yayyyyyyyy for my gorgeous Bretagne!). 🥳 Calanques are narrow, limestone steep-walled inlets. Imagine these stunning white walls of stone leading down to protected channels of the most striking blue waters of the Med.

The best-known examples of this formation can be found in the Massif des Calanques. The range extends for 20 km (12 mi) in length and four kilometers (2.5 mi) in width along the coast between Marseille and Cassis, culminating in Mont Puget (565 m or 1,854 ft). Similar calanques can also be found on the French Riviera near the Massif de l’Esterel and on the island of Corsica (Calanques de Piana). The highest points along the calanques are located at Mont Puget (565 m or 1,854 ft)and in the mountains of Marseilleveyre (432 m or 1,417 ft).

Bisous and big hugs 🤗 from France,
Shannon
