Just opened in January 2021, Hotel du Sentier puts forward heart-warming hospitality that will make you never want to leave Paris.
Of course, we had to mention the incredible history of the Sentier neighborhood and mesmerizing antiquity of what Hotel du Sentier once was. As you walk into the property, you’ll notice a covered passage between the reception area and the inside area of the restaurant. This is where you can discover the oldest and longest covered passage in Paris, Passage du Caire.
Dating back to 1798, it pays tribute to the French troops who served and had victories in Cairo, Egypt, in July 1798. In fact, the facade of Hotel du Sentier and Passage du Caire sports the original Egyptian symbols as they gracefully watch over the neighborhood. With three large busts of goddess Hathor and hieroglyphics at the top of the facade, Passage du Caire reminds the interest and enthusiasm for Egyptian culture at the time. Interestingly, Hotel du Sentier pays homage to this by using one of the hieroglyphics as their logo artwork.
Fun Fact: The Passage du Caire was once filled with various print shops in the 1900’s, and now is known for housing textile wholesalers.
