Monday – Living in Paris, running errands, a trip to the Mairie.

The prefecture always makes me nervous, and I wasn’t sure how long this visit would take. I’ve been collecting documents for weeks and compiling a special project dossier for them.

I kept my afternoon open after for errands and just general Parisian-inspired vibes for this rentrée (return to the city). I couldn’t have asked for better weather as I slipped onto the streets and wound my way through the 3rd, 4th, 10th, and 11th quartiers.

After my appointment, I stopped to work for a bit and to catch my breath at @le_charlot_paris for a fresh squeezed orange juice and espresso. Setting off from there, I intended to go to @rang.paris for lunch. Their Insta, Google, AND website all said they were open Mondays. But after staring at the metal roll-down door until ten minutes past, I decided that Paris had a different plan for me.

A quick taxi ride later led me to Passage Brady or Paris’ little India. I had the best time @old.shalimar – their customer service is top.

Stepping out onto the other end of the passage, you’re greeted with the sight of Porte Saint-Denis, originally a gateway through the Charles V Wall built between 1356 and 1383. Construction started on this gate in 1672.

I especially like the imposing lions with their giant lolling tongues staring down at you. I would have been a bit frightened to approach Paris with a gate like that!

Jumping onto the metro, I landed at the foot of Place de la Bastille six minutes later. The girls had spent the day with their dog-sitter, and we walked home in the sunshine together.
