Have you traveled the Seine River in Paris? It’s a fantastic way to see the city! You’ll often find me walking my two French bulldogs, Pearl and Rose 🐾 , along the water. But exploring Paris by boat 🚤 gives you a whole new perspective of this gorgeous city. The Seine is known for its romantic sightseeing boats, called “bateaux mouches,” that drift up and down the river.

Here are a few fun facts about the River Seine you may not know!

1. The Seine is France’s third-longest river, extending 483 miles from Dijon to the English Channel.

2. The Seine still supplies about half of the water used in Paris.

3. Joan of Arc’s ashes were scattered in the Seine at Rouen.

4. The average depth of the Seine today at Paris is about 9.5 meters (31 feet).

5. The Ile de la Cité is one of two remaining natural islands in the Seine within the city of Paris (the other being the Ile Saint-Louis).

6. There are 37 bridges within Paris and dozens more spanning the river outside the city.

7. The Pont Neuf is the oldest standing bridge across the river Seine in Paris. It was built with interruptions in the work, from 1578 to 1607.

8. The name “Seine” comes from the Latin Sequana, the Gallo-Roman goddess of the river.

My favorite things to do along the river:
– Eat @berthillon_officiel ice cream (look for the shop on Ile Saint Louis)

– Have a picnic!

– Read a book that I purchased from @shakespeareandcoparis

– Watch the street artists and performers on Pont Saint-Louis

– Drink a glass of rosé at Le Flore en L’Ile

– Meet friends (especially @homer_monster & @fred_ange_reiyel with Pico!) for coffee at Daniel rivers Parc de Seine, a cozy riverside buvette

– Watch the dancers near Pont de Sully

– Visit my favorite willow tree in Square du Vert-Galant

– Take in all the glory and glamour of Pont Alexandre III

– And, of course, a promenade along Port Debilly to see the Tour Eiffel riverside.

Bisous and big hugs 🤗 from France,

🇫🇷 France 🇫🇷, forever.
