“There’s just something about Paris.” I’ve heard people say this a hundred times, and it’s true. Sometimes it’s hard to articulate what it really is: the food, the architecture, the ambiance, the liveliness? There’s just something about this city that makes it magical,” says Janelle Sweeney of My Paris Portraits. “For me, Paris opened my eyes to a whole new side of myself that I don’t know if I ever would have discovered had I stayed in the safety of my home country. It is here that my passion for photography blossomed. Whether it was the air or something in the water, my creativity was nurtured in Paris, and I learned a new way to walk through life, looking for beauty in everything.”

“My favorite quote about Paris is by Vincent Van Gogh: ‘There is but one Paris and however hard living may be here, and if it became worse and harder even—the French air clears up the brain and does good-a world of good.’ Because in all honesty moving to Paris was really hard, it’s not an easy city to live in. But I would never change my experience because it has done my soul and me a world of good!” – Janelle Sweeney, @myparisportraits

In today’s slide show, I share images that Janelle created (in the first nine slides). I especially love the recent Christmas tree shots. This season is proving to be full of that magic, wonder, and liveliness she talks about above.

And I set the images to Janelle’s favorite song and band, Magic by Coldplay.

If you would like to join me for a bit of holiday magic, I am hosting an Instagram live on December 1st at noon to celebrate the launch of the Paris Quarterly Winter 2021 edition. Join me as I walk through @galerieslafayette live and share their gorgeous Christmas tree, holiday decorations, and windows with you.

I look forward to seeing you. And for those who cannot join, I will be sure to save the video so you can watch it later at your convenience.

Bisous and big hugs from Paris,
Shannon

🇫🇷 France 🇫🇷, forever.
