One of my top tips for visitors in France is to choose one main activity for the day, then find a great restaurant nearby for your lunch (don’t forget to make an RDV in advance!). After that, let the magic of this country and culture fill in the gaps. Arriving with a sense of discovery and play will help you find those perfect moments that no itinerary can create.
If you are staying in Paris for part or all of your trip, you might find yourself a bit overwhelmed and irritable in the capital of France. If you have ruled out jetlag and hunger, then you might need to take a step back from the busy streets of Paris. Here is a quick list of my favorite locations to find peace and calm in the middle of the city.
Jardin des Plantes – If you look at a map of Paris and search for JDP, you might rule out the park because it seems far away. I promise you it isn’t. It’s a quick 5-10 minute, lovely walk along the Seine from Ile Saint Louis. I prefer this park because of its expansive size, promising you a quiet place to tuck into with a book for the afternoon.
Left Bank, River Seine – There is a section of the river on the left bank that the locals frequent but most tourists aren’t aware of. Grab a cup of coffee, find a bench and watch the boats and people go by.
Cimetière Montparnasse – If your itinerary takes you to Montmartre, and the close, crowded streets leave you harried, head over to the gorgeous Montparnasse cemetery. I LOVE all the cats 🐈 that live there too! It’s a beautiful, quiet space where you can call on your favorite artists and thank them in person.
Parc Sceaux – A quick metro trip outside of the city will take you to Parc Sceaux. The gardens remind me of Versailles but, unlike that park, you can picnic on the lawn here. Enjoy a leisurely lunch in the shadows of the stunning château, explore the expansive walking trails, and there are THREE off-leash areas for your pup.
Bisous and big hugs 🤗 from France,
Shannon
