Joyeuses Pâques, my darlings!
Here is a peek into the church Basilica of Notre-Dame-du-Roncier and the adorable courtyard in front of her, located in Josselin, Bretagne, France.
The church is located at the corner of rue Olivier-de-Clisson and place Notre-Dame in Josselin. During the summer months and on heritage days, you can access the bell tower via Place Alain de Rohan, which gives stunning views over the village and valley.
The legend of the foundation of Notre-Dame du Roncier has it that in 808, a peasant found a statue of the Virgin Mary in a bramble bush while working on the banks of the Oust. He tried to take her home, but the statue kept disappearing only to reappear in his bramble. He decided to build a chapel and, over time, other people came to settle in what became the city of Josselin. The sickle that the peasant used was suspended in the chapel and never suffered the wear of time. The brambles growing on the gable couldn’t be pulled out. Revolutionaries reportedly attempted to burn the original statue, but a fragment was pulled from the flames and placed in a reliquary.*
Happy Easter 🐣 and big bisous from me. 😘😘 Have a wonderful day,🤗
Shannon
