It’s Saturday, and all across France, farmers mark…

It’s Saturday, and all across France, farmers markets, outdoor marchés, cheesemongers, and butchers are opening their stores and stands.

Here is a shortlist of my favorite markets by region. Save for your next trip to France!

Paris, Il de France – Bastille or Marché Aligre
Burgundy – Beaune
Provence – Aix-en-Provence, Saint-Rémy or Arles
Lyon – Bocuse
Brittany – Dinard (over 300 vendors on Saturday!)
Nouvelle-Aquitaine – Ars en Re
Normandie – Honfleur
Occitanie – Sète

Eating seasonally is also important in France. Over 70% of the produce in this country is grown in Brittany (woot!!). Eating of the season means that you’re enjoying varietals and products that are hyper-fresh, local, and saving money too.

Look for oysters, sea urchins, scallops, and milk-fed lamb at this time of the year. Carrots, turnips and frisée salad, apples, pears, and lemons are most ripe this time of year. Pineapples and clementines are also easy to find.

Also, try to take advantage of the Vacherins Mont d’Or cheese, whose season will soon end.

If you missed it, I shared my French onion soup recipe, which is so easy to make and fantastic for a cold, wintry evening meal. The link is up in my bio!

Bisous and have a wonderful weekend,
Big hugs from France,
Shannon

🇫🇷 France 🇫🇷, forever.
