Is this the most unique metro stop in Paris? Plus itinerary ideas below!

“Le Kiosque des noctambules” is a contemporary artwork by French visual artist Jean-Michel Othoniel @othoniel_studio . Installed in 2000 on Place Colette, it is one of the metro entrances to the Palais Royal – Musée du Louvre station. This stunning artwork is made of aluminum and Murano glass spheres.

The dome that overhangs the staircase entrance is made of warm pearls (yellow, white, and red) and represents the day; the other has cold tones (blue, white, yellow, and purple) and appears at night.

If you’d like to see the glass beads up close, don’t miss the showcase embedded in the metro wall at the end of the staircase.

If you want to exit the train station at this gate, don’t turn left and follow the signs to the museum. Instead, you’ll want to go straight, following directions to the Palais Royal. But don’t worry; the other metro exit is just across the street from this stunning artwork.

This location makes for a unique photo backdrop and a great side trip that takes just a few minutes before you go to the Louvre Museum or the Tuileries garden.

A few other favorite things in the area:

@lenemoursparis for a classic espresso & croissant moment on the terrace.

@librairie_delamain_paris is a fantastic bookstore for postcards, photo souvenirs, & books.

@alacivette is my husband’s fav cigar shop. They offer unique brands and Cubans (also a great gift!).

@comedie.francaise.officiel offers fantastic shows, and sometimes there are pop-up musicians and small shows in the courtyard too.

Of course, there’s The not-to-be-missed Palais Royal and her stunning park. It’s one of my favorites in the city.

Villalys has long been one of my go-to restaurants in the city. Try their vegetarian platter with a glass of rosé.

@cafekitsune also has a location in the Palais Royal park, and I haven’t found a better chai latte in Paris yet.
