FRENCH PUBLIC HOLIDAYS TO PLAN FOR. 🐣 TIPS below 👇

Coming to France in April or May? Here is a list of national holidays and how to plan for them.
Spring travel in France can be confusing for tourists because there’s a combo of school vacations, public and religious holidays that create a rolling series of closures and complications.

Here’s the dates you should know about:

Friday, 7 April - Good Friday
Monday, 10 April - Easter Monday

Okay, let’s pause for a second and take a look at that. The French call this a “bridge” weekend because there’s a bookend holiday. Some business owners will take advantage of this and be closed Friday through Monday.

May is chock full of holidays, so please mark your calendars.

1 May Mon Labour Day
8 May Mon Victory Day
18 May Thu Ascension Day
28 May Sun Whit Sunday
29 May Mon Whit Monday

What else? Expect some restaurants, grocery stores, museums, cultural attractions, and stores to be closed on these dates.

TIPS:
° If you are cooking at a rental, go to the grocery stores or farmer’s markets a day or two early. Groceries also become overcrowded these last few days with locals who are preparing.
° If you are eating out, make reservations in advance so you aren’t fighting others for a table.
° Enjoy the slow. Focus on taking long walks, enjoying parks, and resting.
School Spring Breaks.
Some people choose to book their travels in France around these dates. Families depart en masse to take seasonal vacations, which can impact traffic, crowds at national monuments, and more.
