For the first time, the Rodin Museum presents Rodin’s relationship to Egyptian art.

This autumn, the Rodin Museum reveals the remarkable Egyptian collection of the sculptor, composed of more than a thousand works from the pre-Pharaonic period to the Arab period. The Dream of Egypt exhibition presents a tour of more than 400 objects, all restored for the occasion, which combines the collection and works of Auguste Rodin, sculptures and drawings, as well as archives and photographs.
The exhibition benefits from major loans from the Louvre Museum, the Orsay Museum, the Bourdelle Museum and private collectors.
The collection consists of 87 reliefs from architectural elements, tomb walls, temple walls, 14 funerary steles, 288 statues and statuettes, 30 sculptor’s models, 32 elements of sarcophagi, coffins and masks, 144 miscellaneous objects, reliquaries, ex-votos, ouchebtis, Ptah-Sokar-Osiris, amulets, canopic vases, etc., 143 stone and terracotta vases, 103 fabrics and 283 plates and bone objects. That is 1124 objects in total.
The website egypte.musee-rodin.fr is also an irreplaceable tool for knowledge of this collection. All the Egyptian works in Rodin’s collection are the subject of detailed notes, accessible to all on this site. This is the result of a vast research program. The project team has been working for 15 years on the study of this collection thanks to a partnership with the Centre de recherche égyptologique de la Sorbonne, the Centre de recherche et de restauration des musées de France, the Louvre Museum and the University of Paris-Nanterre, and with the support of the Ministry of Culture.
