Do you know where I am?

A fancy chateau in the Loire?
An ancient castle in Normandy?
Or perhaps I am in Versailles or Fontainebleau?

No! I am in Paris!

This period room is unique in its kind, presenting a homogeneous set of furniture from the castle of Rigault d’Oureille in Auvergne. And you can visit this spectacular display at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, located in a wing of the Louvre Museum, central Paris.

Covering four hundred years from the 12th to the 16th century, the Middle Ages/Renaissance collections include 3,622 works testifying to the decor, the art of living, and its evolution until the end of the Renaissance.

For the sake of consistency, the Fine Arts collection, which comes mainly from religious buildings, is presented separately from the Decorative Arts collection at the museum. The collection’s originality makes it possible to follow the complex history from the 13th to the 16th century and the evolution of taste in private interiors from the reign of Charles VIII to that of Henry III.
